- Balancing Energy Services (BES) BES Deployments and BES Cost Reports can be found daily on Ercot's Website http://www.ercot.com/mktinfo/services/bal/
- ERCOT: Electric Reliability Council of Texas. ERCOT supervises/ manages the Texas electricity grid. If your property is not in an ERCOT area, your electricity prices are fixed, and you are not able to choose your electricity provider. This is not always a bad thing, co-ops and the like tend to have surprisingly competitive rates.
- KWh: Kilowatt Hour. The amount of electricity that a 1,000 watt appliance will consume with steady usage over a period of one hour. A 100 watt light bulb will consume one Kilowatt Hour of electricity in 10 hours. A 40 watt bulb will consume one Kilowatt Hour in 25 Hours.
- MCPE: Market Clearing Price for Energy. MCPE is a variable electricity price for businesses in Texas. The rates will vary daily like commodity futures or the stock market. Sometimes you get a lower price, and sometimes higher. In technical terms, "the highest price associated with a congestion zone for a settlement interval for balancing energy deployed during the Settlement Interval." There are 96 settlement intervals a day each lasting 15 minutes.
- Retail and wholesale electricity providers can buy and sell excess energy back to the Texas electric grid.
- Businesses can't purchase this MCPE price directly from the ERCOT grid but have to go through a licensed market participant.
- The MCPE price does not include TDSP charges.
