This means that producers of electricity are free to charge whatever fees for their electricity as they see fit. The government does not force them to charge a fixed price. This is a good thing because it creates competition. Electricity producers are not forced by the government to charge a set price, they must charge according to market forces.

Business and Industrial Electricity Prices Change Daily

Electricity prices in Texas are influenced almost exlcusively by natural gas commodity futures prices even though some electricity is generated by coal, hydroelectric or nuclear energy. Probably for convenience more than anything.
If Natural Gas prices are rising, you can be sure that Texas electricity prices will be close behind, and to a proportionate degree. You need to act now. The TDSP charges are NOT built in to business electricity quotes because businesses with huge spikes in usage will pay higher TDSP charges than those with consistent usage. Also, some business actually buy their own infrastructure and do not pay a lines and wire company.

Residential Electricity prices

Residential electricity rates are more stable than business rates. Though they are influenced by the same market forces and commodity prices, they do not adjust their rates on a daily basis.
Residential rates do include the TDSP charges, so at first glance, it will look like the residential rates are much higher than it is for a business with comparable usage, but that is not the case.
